Abstract:
There are three major buried faults in the Chengdu Basin, including the Dayi fault,Pujiang-Xinjin fault and Longquanshan fault, all of which display some activity in the Quaternary. The field observations after the 8.0 magnitude Wenchuan earthquake on May 12,2008 have disclosed that no new seismic activity and risk have been found for the major buried faults in the Chengdu Basin following the major earthquake. It follows that there is no possibility that will trigger a strong earthquake in the Chengdu Basin, and the basin area is safe and sound at present for the residents.
