Lower Jurassic heavy minerals from southern Mt. Hala'alate, Junggar Basin: Characteristics and geological implications

Abstract: The integration of compositions, assemblages, and their stable coefficients, ZTR index of the heavy minerals has disclosed that there are two NW-trending source areas of the parent rocks from southern Mt. Hala'-alate, Junggar Basin. The parent rocks dominantly consist of intermediate and basic magmatic rocks, and those from the north are characteristic of metamorphic rocks. The steep slope features and plentiful seasonal floods in the study area during the Early Jurassic facilitated the formation of the alluvial deposits. During the deposition of the Jurassic deposits, the tectonism exhibited a more severe trend in the Badaowan Formation than in the Sangonghe Formation, and a culmination prior to the deposition of the Early Cretaceous deposits.
