A NEW TECHNIQUE FOR PATTERN RECOGNITION OF SEDIMENTARY FACIES

A new type of intelligent model,the neural network model,has been proposed in the present paper for the purpose of recognition of sedimentary facies. The model is based on the corresponding relations between the well logging facies and the geological facies defined by the key well studies. The intelligent knowledge may be obtained from the model, and applied,in turn,to recognition of sedimentary facies in unknown wells or sites. The technique suggested herein has been succesfully applied in recognition and division of sedimentary microfaeies in the fourth member of the sandstones from the Wenliu region in the Zhongyuan Oilfield.
