FILLING OF GULLIES BY EOLIAN SAND-A POSSIBLE GENESIS OF SANDSTONE VEINS (DIKES AND SILLS)

    • A great number of gullies have been recognized in the Huanghe River delta. These gullies range in depth from several cm to more than 1 m(usually tens of cm),in width from several cm to several m(usually ten cm or so),and in length from a few decades of cm to twenty m or so (usually several m).They also have diverse morphologies:erect tabular-flaky,vertical wedge-shaped,"⊥"-and "U"-shaped,trapezoidal and dendritic forms, which are usually filled by eolian sand and then turned into sandstone veins (dikes and sills) through diagenesis. The author interpretes the sand filling of alluvial gullies as a possible genesis of sandstone veins (dikes and sills) in the study area.
