Assessment of the debris flow origins along the mountainous stream basins:An example from the Zi’er gully in Kangding,Sichuan

    • With the ever-growing trend of extreme weathers, the debris flows frequently occur and bring about more and more tremendous disasters all over the world. The assessment of the stability and reserves of the loose deposits along the mountainous stream basins may help establish a basis for the recognition of debris flow gullies. In this paper, three parameters are calculated, including slump area rate, length ratio of the unfavourable geological bodies, and minimum amounts of the debris flow-triggering loose deposits. The calculations indicate the possibility of the debris flows along the Zi’er gully in Kangding,Sichuan due to the accumulation of abundant and unstable loose deposits. This method may be viable in the application to the forecast and supervise-warning,and risk assessment of the debris flows.
