IMPLICATIONS OF PENECONTEMPORNEOUS DIAGENESIS OF CARBONATES FOR THE STUDY OF SEQUENCE STRATIGRAPHY

    • Penecontemporneous diagenesis considered as a new field of carbonate sedimentology objectively records the post-depositional and pre-burial evolutionary processes and displays more sensitivity of sea-level fluctuations so as to be helpful to the recognition of stratigraphic sequences and sequence boundaries. The present paper describes the diagenetie responses of penecontemporneous diagenetic sequences and types to the shelf-margin systems tract, transgressive systems tract, highstand systems tract and types Ⅰ and Ⅱ sequence boundaries.
